‘The Hungry Paper’

The Hungry Paper is a new project by creative collective Machine and Bezet.  Bezet was the driving force behind a project they made ten years ago on printed plastic bags.

For over two years, they designed and distributed a new bag on the streets of Amsterdam. Some of the designs on the bags were comments on what was happening in the news, others contained personal statements or visual jokes.

Through a number of distribution points the bags made their way to the public. They appeared over bike saddles, in the hands of people shopping, or framed on living room walls.

The Bezet project was later included in the permanent collections of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Design Museum Breda and the SFMOMA.

The Hungry Paper is a sequel to this project, made with the same mentality and ambition. It is a publication on placemats that can be seen at several venues in Amsterdam. Machine is interested to create other ways to show art in public space. While you and your company wait for your meal, there is something to be discovered and discussed right under your plate. Those in the know will realize it’s smart to ask the waiter for an extra copy to take home…

The Hungry Paper will appear every six weeks.
